“Brave Heart”

it is a gut punch
we were not hardened for
having turned aside for other
utter insanities in the world
now there is no escape
from the stun-gun poisoned fist
the tortured blood on snow
job of a monstrous murderer
…distant adoring fans
we have followed his saga
borrowing his heroism
we imagined ourselves
partner in his passions
that immovable stare in our eyes
embers of his undying fire for freedom
straightening into his heroic stature
…this man son father lover
now struck down in exile
by madness made hell
his body disappeared
…and we are left imprisoned
by our own pitiful inaction
uttering muttering
our legend’s footnote:
he was so much more
than all of us
