Storm Surge
the response to Hurricane Matthew as metaphor for American campaign news
The latest storm skirts the coast,
sends worried residents and tourists
skittering inland to shelter
they hope promises safety.
In these conditions, all bets are off
as to what is next or when
things might take a turn for the worse
or who will pay the price.
Still, a few souls stand their ground
against all odds, stare eye to eye
with the tempest that threatens
to destroy them.
Trying to weather the storm,
they take the risk, ride out the surge…
though sometimes they find out too late
there is no safe place to hide.
