Trump’s Secrets

Moles

Secreted in their subterranean tunnels—
those bulging veins of soil
that map illicit paths beneath
the grassy skin of shady yard—
squinty eyes blind, noses sharp,
they search for roots still new enough
to chew or pull down a weed or two to nibble,
as they claw their way through life,
their yellow teeth gnawing deep
when anything gets in their way.
Sequestered, they rise only to shove
pay dirt into mounds of damp landfill
that pock the lawn and leave hidden holes,
proof of their nightly underground economy—
a black market of musky darkness,
a network of covert tycoons who eschew
even the slightest light of sun’s truth.
