OH, SHALOM

Oh, Israel,
Oh, Palestine,

whose blood marks doorways
without sparing life—

Where is the angel of mercy
at this year’s Passover?

What madness kills children
after masses are murdered?

Who is this uninvited guest
who comes to ruin the Seder?

The leavening of revenge
spoils kosher meals.

The bitterness of terror
is on every tongue.

The innocent dead call out
from their graves of rubble.

Oh, men who mourn
this plague of hatred,

Oh, women who know
what it means to be whole,

Oh, rabbis who understand
the lessons of Tikkun,

Come to the table.
Call us to prayers for grace.

Oh, Pesach, Oh, Eid,
let us set a place for peace.
