CELEBRATE

Like a young poet in love,
set aside your heartaches
to sing the lovely stanzas
of life’s amazing goodness
as the lyrics to a new song
you are teaching yourself.
Let life pull you forward
like a child leading you
someplace magical.
Gladly wear sparkly paper
party hats of laughter.
Blow the horn of happiness
in blasts of ridiculous noise.
Fill balloons with gratitude,
breathe them like helium,
then squeak with joy.
Call the people you love.
Invite those you want to meet.
Include some others you find
hard to understand.
Take them to the park, the church,
the theater, the bookstore,
the art gallery, your home,
a forest, a field, a garden.
Stand still together.
Grasp one other’s hands
as you sing a song of peace,
become a prayer for grace,
make a promise to always belong
to the family of compassion.
Let your wildest dreams
for this precious world dance
skyward as kites in the wind
of what might happen next
if we believe.
